Application
Lanthanum is not only a rare earth element, but also an important surface active element. When lanthanum is added to magnesium alloy as an alloy element, it can reduce the surface energy of the liquid metal, reduce the critical nucleation work, and increase the number of crystal cores. Meanwhile, there is an intermediate phase formed by Lanthanum, which can be used as a new crystal core for heterogeneous nucleation, and also as a solid phase to prevent the growth of dendrites. This is why It is beneficial to refine grain and matrix structure.
Magnesium Lanthanum Master Alloy is widely used to refine the grains of the magnesium alloy and improve the corrosion resistance and creep resistance of the magnesium alloy. Also used for the production of heat-resistant magnesium alloy additives.
