Introduction of Drywall Screws, Gypsum Screws
Drywall screws are a kind of self tapping screws that used to install the drywall on walls or ceillings which are generally wood or metal framing members. For wood walls or ceillings, always using the coarse thread drywall screws, and for sheet metals or plasterwood walls, normally using fine threaded drywall screws ordrywall tek screws (with a drilling point).
Why need a drywall screw to install drywalls on a wood/metal walls or ceilling?
Firstly we shall know Drywall is a type of building material that made from gypsum and other minerals pressed between sheets of heavy paper. Using a drywall screw, there is no need to pre-drill holes, with its counter sunk head design (always in Phillips drive), the screw lies flush with the surface of the sheet, creating a smooth and even finish. It can minimize dimpling on the face of the walls while other nails may leave small holes in or divots in the drywall, and even goes loose over time. Drywall screws are threaded to grip both the drywall and the framing members tightly, and provide a much more secure and long-lasting installation over time. The countersunk head also helps prevent the drywall screw from breaking the paper surface. Drilling a drywall screw must have a tool known as drywall dimpler, which has an adjustable nose that can avoid tearing the paper on each sheet. After all the screws have been installed, the walls are finished using joint compound which is spread over both the screw holes and the joints between each sheet. Once the compound dries, the walls can be sanded smooth and painted.
