Rabeprazole is a white to yellowish white powder, odorless, and its molecular weight is 381.43. This product is easily soluble in water or meth anol, soluble in absolute etha nol or eth yl ace tate, and almost insoluble in et her or et hane. This product does not show optical rotation, but has a thermo-absorption property. Its melting point is 225°C, and its distribution coefficient in a water/octane system with a pH of 7.0 is about 214.

Rabeprazole and omeprazole are both proton pump inhibitors. The so-called proton pump, or H+/K+-ATPase, is the last step of gastric acid secretion. Proton pump inhibitors can efficiently and quickly inhibit the proton pump and reduce gastric acid secretion. It is currently the most advanced class of drugs for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, reflux esophagitis, and gastric Helicobacter pylori infection. Compared with other types of acid inhibitors, proton pump inhibitors have strong acid inhibitory effects, high specificity, and long duration.
