Physical Property
Is hygroscopic amorphous brown powder (90% white powder), [α]16D-12.8. (C=4.6, methanol), tetraacetate is colorless acicular crystal, melting point: 196ºC. Paeoniflorin is stable (pH2 ~ 6) in acidic environment, but not stable in alkaline environment.
1. Effects on the central nervous system
Paeoniflorin has significant analgesic, sedative and anticonvulsive effects. Extract of Peony can antagonize convulsion induced . Intraperitoneal injection in mice has a significant analgesic effect, which may be independent .

Paeoniflorin has the effect of diastolic smooth muscle cells. By relaxing sphincter, Paeoniflorin is beneficial to bile and pancreatic fluid excretion during acute pancreatitis, thus reducing pancreatic enzyme activation, alleviating pancreatic acinus damage, and ultimately reducing the severity of acute pancreatitis.
3. Antipyretic effect
Paeoniflorin can reduce the body temperature of normal mice, but can conduct heat in artificially heated mice.
4. Anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer and anti-allergic effects
Paeoniflora (50mg/kg,ig) can inhibit foot and ankle swelling caused by carrageenan and dextrophenol in rats, prevent adjuvant arthritis in rats, prevent stress ulcer in rats and inhibit gastric secretion. Paeony decoction can inhibit some pathogenic bacteria and fungi.
5. Hypoglycemic effect
Intravenous injection of paeoniflorin can significantly reduce the blood sugar of streptohomycin induced diabetic mice, and the plasma sugar content also decreases gradually with the extension of administration time.
